Penis enlargement
Penis enlargement can, at times, be a confusing business. There's so much information out there, but not all of it is reliable or accurate - and that can make it difficult to separate fact from fiction. Luckily for you, the Men's Locker Team did their own version of Myth Busters.
In this section, we'll run through the various penis enlargement techniques available to you. We'll also explain, with the help of scientific evidence, how they work or how they don't work. We'll either confirm, bust or accept the technique as plausible.
Penis pumps
Penis pumps create suction around the shaft and draw blood into the penis. This helps men to form a strong erection and, in the short-term, can give the impression of a larger penis.
However, a scientific study by the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2005 into the efficacy of penis pumps found that they do not lead to any notable increase in size. The study says:
Results: After 6 months, the mean penile length had increased from 7.6cm to 7.9cm (no significant difference).
Conclusion: Vacuum treatment of the penis is not an effective method for penile elongation, but provides psychological satisfaction for some men.
Enlargement pills
Anybody with an email account will be aware that penis enlargement pills are heavily - and indiscriminately - marketed. Significantly, however, there is absolutely no scientific evidence to suggest that penis enlargement pills are in any way effective.
As highlighted by Flora Research of California and by the University of Maryland, customers choosing penis enlargement pills should also be aware that the pills may contain potentially dangerous levels of E. Coli, heavy metals and pesticides, among other things.
Enlargement creams
Much like penis enlargement pills, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that penis enlargement creams work.
In many cases, they contain extremely harmful chemicals which cause irreversible damage to the penis. They should be avoided at all cost.
If the concept was sound, then nobody would ever have to work out at the gym. They could simply cover their bodies in enlargement cream and watch their biceps grow…. Unlikely!
Penis extenders
Traction devices, like those made by us - Men's Locker, and JES Extender/MaleEdge promote cell division and multiplication in the penis. Over time, this causes the penis to grow, both in length and girth. This is exactly the same principle upon which working out at the gym is based.
In 2002, a study in the International Journal of Impotence Research stated categorically that traction-based penis enlargers are successful at increasing penis size - and with no side effects whatsoever (scroll down to (P-155 for details). The study says:
Results: In all subjects the elongation of the penis was proportional to the device time of use. After four months the stretched penis augmentation was +1.8cm (range +0.5 - +3.1cm). The daily average was 6.5 hours (range 3-9 hours). No side effects occurred.
Enlargement surgery
Penis enlargement surgery is an extreme solution, usually only recommended to men who have suffered a severe injury or have other major problems that need to be corrected. Enlargement surgery works by releasing ligaments in the penis, allowing more of the penile shaft to protrude from the body.
In 2006, a study published in European Urology found that only 35% of men who underwent penis enlargement surgery were satisfied with the results. The report says: The data published in this paper have demonstrated that on average these procedures elongate the external part of the penile shaft by only 1 cm.
Jelqing exercises
This technique involves wrapping the thumb and index finger around the penis while semi-erect and forcing blood into the glans by repeatedly drawing it away from the body.
The theory behind jelqing is that it exercises muscles and tissue in the penis - and ultimately increases penis size. According to advocates, the jelqing technique works by drawing blood through the penis towards the glans, which increases vascularity in the corpus cavernosa.
At present, there is very little hard scientific evidence to back up this claim but the technique remains popular. Online, there are literally thousands of websites devoted to jelqing - often offering conflicting explanations of how it works. In some cases, jelqing is promoted as a technique to maximise the potential of using a scientifically proven traction-based penis enlarger.
Erectile Dysfunction - Myths and Facts!
For most men, difficulty with erections can be damaging to the health of their relationship. Despite more understanding about the causes of erectile dysfunction, as well as a growing number of effective treatments, many men are too embarrassed or do not have enough information to seek medical help. About 90 percent of men with erectile dysfunction don't talk to a doctor about the problem, so can't be treated effectively.
What is erectile dysfunction?
Erectile dysfunction is the persistent inability to attain and/or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity. The occasional temporary erectile failure due to tiredness, stress or excessive alcohol consumption is not the same thing.
Erectile dysfunction is a long-term, recurrent medical problem needing proper diagnosis and treatment. Dispelling the following myths about erectile dysfunction (the more precise term for impotence) will help men and their partners to understand the condition and open channels of communications between them and medical professionals.
Myth 1:
Erectile dysfunction means loss of interest in sex, lack of vigour or sterility
Fact:
In most cases, affected men retain desire and the ability to have an orgasm and ejaculate. Erectile dysfunction means a difficulty with erections, not a loss of interest in sex, sterility, or a lack of strength, vigour or power.
Myth 2:
Difficulty with erections is not that common and doesn't affect real men
Fact:
Erectile dysfunction is common with estimates of more than 100 million men worldwide suffering the condition to some degree.
Myth 3:
Erectile dysfunction is a natural part of growing old
Fact:
There is a higher incidence of erectile dysfunction among older men because of age-related conditions, including vascular disease, diabetes and medications for these conditions. Although it mainly affects older men, it also occurs in younger males. Erectile dysfunction should not be considered a natural or acceptable part of the ageing process.
